Take your dreams off the shelf
Allow me to introduce myself first. I’m Angel Rose Gayol, 20 yrs old and a 4th year student of Library and Information Science of Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Internship is a great opportunity to gain practical knowledge about any real world concept. Internship bridges the theory with the practice in any particular field of study. Southville International School and Colleges library is one of the libraries I dream to work with. The environment of the library is very relaxing, the staff are accommodating, they allow their students to explore on their own. As days went by, I actually learned a lot in terms of shelf reading, assigning call numbers, subject headings and Mr. Ramos motivated us to be more creative, and the our first task boosted our creativity in designing the bulletin board. At first we hesitated to do that because both of us are not creative at all, but Mr. Ramos motivated us to do that and we finished it very beautifully. We already had two weeks of stay here and we learn a lot every each day.
Being a Library and Information Science student is not easy. There will be people who will inquire about the said profession, what is it all about? Why does it matter? and the like. Until I became tired of explaining everything to them. One time, I told myself that I will just prove my profession and make it known to them and even to other people. I will study very hard to finish college and to be a professional librarian. I’m glad that in the next few months I will receive my diploma, and that will only be a beginning towards my dreams.
