WASC to a librarian-usherette
The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC), a world-renowned accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States, works closely with the Office of Overseas Schools under the U.S. Department of State. ACS WASC provides assistance to schools worldwide, primarily in California, Hawaii, Guam, Asia, the Pacific Region, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe (ACS WASC org).
The philosophy of the Accrediting Commission for Schools centers upon three beliefs: (1) a school’s goal is successful student learning; (2) each school has a clear purpose and schoolwide student goals; and (3) a school engages in external and internal evaluations as part of continued school improvement to support student learning.
SISC has been WASC accredited since 2000 and has been granted 6-year cycle (highest level) which is given to schools that adhere to the highest standards of delivering quality international education. So this year, 2018, Southville applied for renewal of another 6-year of being WASC accredited.
The WASC team that visited SISC last March 11-15, 2018 (Sunday to Thursday), was composed of 6 delegates coming from different countries in Asia. And to be chosen as one of the usherettes to welcome and serve them was indeed a great privilege that I was able to witness how accreditors are doing their job well, from observing, interviewing to evaluating every area of our institution.
