Southville conducts talk on young adult fiction at Fully Booked

Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) partnered with Fully Booked to encourage and promote reading in children, youth, and adults’ lives. This event was aimed to introduce and discuss Young Adult (YA) fiction books. Three guest speakers talked about their reading experiences in life. Mr. Roderick Ramos, SISC librarian, shared about his skills and practices as a librarian. Ms. Precious Banaag and Ms. Isabel Gomez, both of whom are book bloggers, talked about their passion for reading and writing about the different books they’ve read. All three conveyed their thoughts and opinions about Young Adult fiction books. They even shared a few tips on how to be updated with YA book such as browsing through goodreads.com, a virtual bookshelf, and book blogs. This insightful event held on the third floor of Fully Booked Alabang Town Center last Saturday, November 21, 2015 truly opened the minds of young adults about reading.

Many people think that YA books are only meant to be read by young adults at the age range of 12-18 years old. Such mentality needs to be corrected because these books can be read by adults even at the age of 60 and above. Young Adult books can give us a sense on how to relive our youthful days that were filled with adventures and challenges, or fantasize a youthful life that we did not experience ourselves. But no matter what story we come across on a YA book, I’m sure it is something we will enjoy.
