Happy 28th Foundation Day
Dearest College Team,
Today marks the Foundation Day of Southville International School and Colleges. But what is the significance of this day? Why celebrate a Foundation Day? First, it brings us back to the school’s ‘reason for being’ and gives us a sense of history. SISC was established 28 years ago by Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Tan. Do you know for what purpose? At that time, she can’t find a school good enough to enable her children to compete globally. So she built a school that will instill academic and values excellence in her children for this purpose. If you wonder why Southville is a caring community, it is because its roots is anchored on a mother’s love for her children. In your stay in SISC, you don’t only gain new students and colleagues, you gain children, mentors, and friends for life – you become a member of a family.
Second, Foundation Day gives us a sense of mission and purpose. Why should we set aside a time in an activity-laden school year to celebrate Foundation Day? We celebrate so that we do not forget the vision of the people who established it, so that we testify to the vision which has inspired the school for the last 28 years. It is a reminder that in your stay with us, we are instruments for teaching the students the 5Cs (competence, character, commitment to achieve, creativity and collaboration) and in doing so, the 5Cs values is alive within us. There were and are many like us, who have given so much to the school over the years to enable us to achieve this vision. Hence, today is also about remembering and honoring all of us who have served to make the school what it is today. Last, Foundation Day is a day of reminiscing, a day of honoring, a day to celebrate what has been achieved over the past 28 years, and a day to envision what is yet to come. This day is a reminder that when we forget our history, we move into an uncertain future. We celebrate Foundation Day to affirm that we believe in the school’s vision and mission, and we are a part of its realization.
You are a living testament of a true Monarch. Take pride in what you are.
